Math Kangaroo

What is Math Kangaroo?

Math Kangaroo is an international math competition aims to promote mathematical thinking and stimulate an interest in math, by providing students with an opportunity to compare their abilities against the abilities of other students, from different countries around the world. Math Kangaroo is now the largest challenge for school students in the world, with over 6.3 million participants from 87 countries in 2019. Math Kangaroo is hosted annually for students in grades 1-12. Competitors will be placed in a specific level between 1-6 according to their grades. The competition is a single round 75-minute test, consisting of 24 questions for grades1-4 and 30 questions for grades 5-12.

Why is Math Kangaroo Important?

With more than 6.3 million participants all over the world, Math Kangaroo can help students develop a passion for math learning and logical thinking. Math Kangaroo participants are encouraged to reach their full potential by competing further in other math competitions such as AMC 8, AMC 10, and even AIME, which are designed for middle school and high school students.

AMC 8

What is AMC 8?

Organized by the Mathematical Association of America(MAA), American Mathematics Competition (AMC) provides an opportunity for middle school students to develop positive attitudes towards analytical thinking and mathematics that can assist in future careers. Today, the challenge has become the most influential youth math challenge with over 300,000 students participating annually in over 6,000 schools from 30 countries and regions. AMC 8 held in January for grade 8 or below and under 14.5 years of age.

The material covered on AMC 8 includes topics from a typical middle school mathematics curriculum. Possible topics include but are not limited to: counting and probability, estimation, proportional reasoning, elementary geometry including the Pythagorean Theorem, spatial visualization, everyday applications, and reading and interpreting graphs and tables. In addition, some of the later questions may involve linear or quadratic functions and equations, coordinate geometry, and other topics traditionally covered in a beginning algebra course.

AMC 10

What is AMC 10?

Organized by the Mathematical Association of America(MAA), American Mathematics Competition (AMC) is a series of examinations to evaluate problem-solving skills and mathematical knowledge in middle and high school students. AMC 10 is for students in 10th grade and below, and covers the high school curriculum up to 10th grade.

Why is AMC 10 Important?

AMC 10 is the first in a series of competitions that eventually lead all the way to the International Mathematical Olympiad. Top performers in AMC 10 will be invited to American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME), and the score of AIME and AMC10/12 will be evaluated to see if a student is qualified to attend USA Junior Mathematical Olympiad (USAJMO). This math competition is a great tool that helps students form a passion for math and analytical thinking. The nationally recognized competition is also a standout extracurricular on college applications.

Australian Mathematics Competition

What is Australian Mathematics Competition?

The Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) was introduced in Australia in 1978 as the first Australia-wide mathematics challenge for students. It has become the largest single event on the Australian education calendar, allowing students to attempt the same tasks on the same day in over 30 countries around the globe.

The Australian Mathematics Trust (AMT) is a national not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to enrich the teaching and learning of mathematics for students of all standards.AMT hold mathematics and informatics challenge, administer enrichment activities, conduct workshops for students and teachers, and publish books on mathematical enrichment for Australian and international students. The AMT selects and supports Australia's international mathematics and informatics Olympiad teams.

UKMT—JMC

What is UKMT—JMC?

The United Kingdom Mathematics Trust (UKMT) was founded in 1996 and stands as a registered charity, whose charitable aim is to advance the education of young people in mathematics by offering a wide range of national-level competitions and activities for students from 11 to 18 years old in the UK.

UKMT encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems. Among many mathematical challenges organized by UKMT, their biggest challenges are the Junior, Intermediate and Senior Mathematical Challenge(JMC/IMC/SMC),which have over 700,000 entries from 6,000 schools each year, and are the UK's most popular school Mathematical Challenges.

Awards Setting

To recognize the highest performers in the Challenge, UKMT Mathematical Challenges award the top-scoring 50%-66%(JMC/IMC with 50%, SMC with 66%)of participants Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates in the ratio 3:2:1. Chinese students will be given awards based on UK cut-off.
